Jamba Juice XTERRA Mountain Man Triathlon
Staged in the picturesque mountains of Ka`awa Valley on August 9th, participants were challenged with a 750 meter swim, 20K bike and 6K run. A qualifier for the XTERRA World Championships on Makena, Maui in October, 58 Hawaii residents received invitations to from this event. Congratulations to overall male and female winners, Alex Eiler and Rani Tanimoto. Tai Blechta and Chad Seymour respectively took second and third place honors for the men. Kimberly Ridgeway and Jennifer Van Delden rounded out the top three female finishers.
Hui o He`e Nalu Independence Day Paddleboard Race
Jamba's very own, Scott McPhail, John DeMarco and daughter Olivia were out representing at the 30th Annual Hui o He`e Nalu Independence Day Paddleboard Race was held on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu. The 3.5 mile race started at Sunset Beach and finished at Waimea Bay. The Waimea Bay Lifegaurds Keiki Ocean Challenge followed the paddleboard race and was FREE to all kids ages 5 to 12 years old.
Triathletes gathered in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii for the Ford Ironman 70.3 Honu Triathlon on May 31, 2008. The event began in the waters of Hapuna Beach, followed by a 56 mile bike ride to Hawi and back and concluded with a 13.1 mile run through the breathtaking Mauna Lani resort grounds. The winner of the 2008 half Ironman was Australian, Chris McCormack who also won the Kona Ironman in 2007. The Jamba Juice team served smoothies to the volunteers for their hard work and to the finishers after they completed the grueling competition.
Niketown Reuse A Shoe
Every year, millions of pairs of athletic shoes are thrown away. These shoes clog our landfills and waste a lot of good material in the process. On Saturday, April 26th Niketown Honolulu was the collection site for new and used athletic shoes. The event took place from 9 am to 2 pm and over 30,000 pairs of shoes were donated in an effort to recycle the materials into "Nike Grind" and create playground and sport surfaces. Jamba was onsite blending All-Fruit Groovy Guava smoothies to those that attended, one of which was Mayor Mufi Hanneman.
7th Annual Jamba Juice Banana Chase
The 7th annual Jamba Banana Man Chase proved fruitful for participants, Muscular Dystrophy Association of Hawaii (MDA) and Hawaii Speed & Quickness, a skills training program for aspiring youth athletes. Over 800 participated in the a-peeling event and raised over $23,000 for the two charities.
This year's 5K race featured celebrity bananas including news anchors Dan Meisenzahl from KITV, Stephanie Lum from KHNL and John Veneri from KHON who raced on a Segway! As a new addition to the Banana Man Chase, a 500 meter Keiki Fun Run was held for kids ages 4-10.
Following the event, participants enjoyed Jamba smoothies, Speed & Quickness drills, a bounce house, massages by JACO and prize giveaways.
