Jamba Banana Man Chase Seeks 1,200 Runners for 5K and
200 Kids for Keiki Fun Run on May 9, 2009
Honolulu, HI (February 9, 2009)—Jamba Hawaii announced the 8th Annual Jamba BananaMan Chase is set for Saturday, May 9th,2009 at Ala Moana Beach Park, Magic Island, starting at 7 am sharp. The Jamba Banana Man Chase is also known as Hawaii’s Wackiest Race because runners chase life size bananas around the 5K course!
This year, Jamba set a goal of over 1,200 runners for the 5K, 200 kids for the Keiki Fun Run and raising $50,000 for MDA Hawaii and Hawaii Speed and Quickness, a skills training program designed to teach aspiring athletes to become faster and excel in all types of sports.
The first three male and first three female runners to pass the Jamba bananas and cross the finish line receive Jamba for a Year (26 Free 16 oz. smoothie coupons). In addition, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in EACH male and female division (12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+) also receive Jamba for a Year!
The cost to join this appealing race is $25 for entries signed up online or postmarked by May 1st, and $30 for late registration after May 1st. Runners can enter on line by visiting www.active.com. Entry fee includes a Jamba Banana event shirt and a Jamba coupon for a free 16 ounce smoothie.
The Keiki Fun Run will be held at 7:45 am for kids ages 13 and under. The entry fee is $15 which includes a t-shirt and race medal. Following both runs there will be family fun including entertainment, bounce house, massage tables, UH athletes demonstrating Speed and Quickness drills, free Jamba smoothies and exciting prize giveaways.
Over the past seven years, the Jamba Banana Man Chase has partnered up with MDA Hawaii to raise just under $200,000 for children and adults with muscular dystrophy. Last year, Jamba added a second charity, Hawaii Speed and Quickness, an organization founded by UH Warrior Football coach (and former NFL player) Rich Miano, and professional trainer Mel Delaura. They offer state of the art speed and agility conditioning training for kids ages 7 and up.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a national non-profit health agency that is dedicated to finding treatments and cures for the 43 neuromuscular diseases as well as promoting quality of life incentives. MDA-Hawaii does not seek United Way or government funding or fees from those served. Approximately 75% of the funds raised directly affect their clients by: providing free clinics and support group sessions, allowing clients to attend summer camp, funding innovative research, and supplying clients with equipment purchases and repairs.

Hawaii Speed and Quickness is a skills training program designed to teach aspiring athletes to become faster, quicker, jump higher and excel in all sports. Training clinics are offered at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and outer-island training by appointment. The cost is $10.00 per session; however scholarships are available to qualified applicants.
